Dubeji, You didn’t tell, if you are coming alone or with wife/family? I’m afraid to disappoint you that in £40k salary even living alone is not enough in London. You will struggle to save.
You can save some money by sacrificing comfort and cutting down on various expenses.

No one saves money here. A full time job will not give you anything. People who save money in the UK are either self employed/freelancers/contractors or involved in business.
When I first came in the UK I was also living in London. Couldn’t save a penny with my full time salary. I ended up doing business eventually.
Rent, commutation and bills will eat all your savings. You may live in flat share and cook food at home to reduce some expenses but this will be tough. Flatshare is shitty idea. Anyways it is up to you how much you can sacrifice to save.

I agree with @guru. With such rising inflation forget about saving, you will struggle to survive. In last 1-2 years prices have doubled for the most of the things I use on daily basis. It is crisis here in the UK.
Think again before coming here and do your homework for savings.
